• TFIF Boils and Ghouls, am I right?!

The last week has been quite a chaotic whirlwind and I was about ready to admit defeat (as my exhaust fumes were extinguishing) when I realized there was a long weekend coming (so, yay an extra recharge day!)

It’s also got me romantically longing for another Montreal trip so I can see lovely friends, truly recharge my soul and also check out some of my favorite spots in the city (like thrifting at Eva B and playing pinball at North Star)

Being hit with pure exhaustion but bitten with the nostalgia bug really as me floating happily down memory lane and has also triggered some fond memories of my favorite childhood TV shows when I see those haunted VHS players

So I thought I’d focus this Friday “Fright Night” around some of the scary shows that truly inspired my horror obsession πŸ‘»

so you won’t miss out on blog posts πŸ‘†πŸ»

+ feel free to get nostalgic and rewind to last weekend

Let’s begin our Friday Fright Night with a few scary shows

Do we dare insert these VHS cassette tapes?!

    πŸ“Ό No 1: Freaky Stories

“This is a true story. It happened to a friend of a friend of mine…”

Growing up in Canada, I loved watched YTV and think back fondly to all the shows aired during the 90s that I loved, like Bobby’s World, Uh oh! and Reboot.

But one of those shows that really holds a special place in my creepy heart happens to be a cute, (questionably child-friendly) animated collection of urban legends called Freaky Stories.

    watch on Tubi

I grew morbidly fascinated with urban legends and wanted to uncover more deeply disturbing scary stories after watching this show πŸ‘» (sorry mom & dad, but you always knew I loved a good ghost story around the campfire…)

πŸ“Ό No. 2: Are you Afraid of the Dark?

“Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society, I call this story…”

This show actively made me want to join the Midnight Society (or have my very own) to tell creepy tales and ghost stories by the campfire, in the woods, with my friends in the middle of the night… (a ghoul can dream)

    watch on Amazon Prime

Honestly for a children’s show, I will admit that some of the episodes were actually very frightening, and still vividly stick with me to this very day… 🀑🀑🀑

And it’s probably why I am STILL afraid of the dark…

πŸ“Ό No 3: Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction

“To find out, you must enter a world of both truth and deception, a world that is beyond belief.”

As I mentioned, I became morbidly curious with eerie and mysterious stories, and even more enthralled by the ones that could possibly be true… so of course when the TV series Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction aired during my childhood, it would be one of the biggest influences on my morbid curiosity!

    watch on Tubi

Each episode contains five stories that are reenacted (in a very 90s manner) and at the very end of the episode, you’ll learn which of the stories were FACT, and which were pure (horrific) FICTION.

Both Hosts James Brolin & Jonathan Frakes do a fantastic job narrating in-between the stories (with Frakes replacing Brolin during Season 2) where you will really feel those chills down your spine during each story’s introduction. I highly recommend binging this show!

    πŸ“Ό No. 4: Goosebumps

    “Beware… you’re in for a scare…”

Speaking of things that stick with you (Hi, Slappy!) my obsession with Goosebumps has never faded away. In fact, I used to collect the books as a kid along with routinely watching all the episodes of the TV series!

    watch on Amazon Prime

I had to unfortunately donate all my old Goosebumps books in a cross-province move, but I’m hoping to start collecting them again (in my adulthood πŸ–€)

and I’ll always remember you, Scholastic Book Fair Hauls πŸ“šπŸ–€

Since I happen to do a lot of reading, and love to chat about books whenever I can (plugs Goosebumps book obsession above), I thought I’d suggest a few books that you might also enjoy…

πŸ‘€ If you like those TV shows, you should really Read πŸ‘‡πŸ»

    πŸ“— No. 1:
The Saturday Night Ghost Club πŸ‘»

That nostalgic retro creepy atmosphere mixed with such a heartfelt story was everything I never knew I needed until I read this book.

Craig Davidson (aka Nick Cutter) is a Canadian author who possess a wicked alter writing ego that you must check out!

    πŸ“— No. 2:
Found: An Anthology of Found Footage Horror Stories πŸ“Ό

A collection of unsettling and terrifying tales in this incredible curated anthology with some truly notable horror writers is a must read for any found footage ghoulie πŸ‘πŸ»

    πŸ“— No. 3:
    Daphne 🀘🏻

Hearing chilling reading experiences from other booktubers really drew me to this book and I was NOT disappointed 😰

It gives a truly immersive urban legend experience and has now officially put Josh Malerman on my reading radar.

And might have inspired me to also pick up and read A House at the Bottom of a Lake

    πŸ“— No. 4:
Be Scared of Everything: Horror Essays 😨

As a ghoul obsessed with horror media and pop culture, I was really excited when I picked up this essay book from my local bookstore (Trident Booksellers & Cafe) and when I discovered it was written by a local author, I was even more excited!

    Local Author Peter Counter
    Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Another fellow blogger, author Peter Counter runs the Everything is Scary blog and has also published a few other non-fiction books. Definitely a writer to keep an eye on for captivating and insightful commentary!

As a little Friday Fright Night bonus treat, in theme with the post, I thought I’d end tonight’s blog with a little audio visual to kick off the spooky spirits to come this weekend!

If you haven’t already seen the recent video uploaded by Cadaber then you really ARE in for a terrifying treat 😱

And if you haven’t already checked out the previous Scary Stories & Morbid Media post, I have an eerie suspicion you’d be intrigued with the content πŸ‘€

  • It’s been a very fashion forward weekend for me, as I’m planning on doing some major spring cleaning and prepping for upcoming clothing swaps in my community! πŸ‘€

And if you know me, you know I have a slight obsession with collecting things… and graphic T-shirts just happen to be one of the many archival projects in my clothing lineup πŸ™ˆ

    πŸ’Ÿ Customize Your Character

What I love about graphic tees is how customizable they can be when making any sort of outfit, or within any given style. Versatility at it’s finest… forget the labelled ‘size’ of the shirt!

If you want to create that oversized, comfy look then find one that fits that vision!

    Wanna ’em cropped?

    Cut them!

When you have options to customize your outfits and style, it can really feel creatively recharging. So using graphic tees as your artistic medium, you’ll truly have a kaleidoscope of ‘fits at your disposal!

    Building my Vision Board πŸ‘€

To channel and source my inspo, I wanted to create a vision board to help me focus on how I want to rock my tees.

I really love an effortless, edgy look that is chic and comfy for whatever the day has laid out for me, and if it can transition from day to night with ease… even better 😎

A combination of … okay, maybe a lot of neutrals with a hint of color as the accent πŸ™ˆ but I’m working on brightening my outlook, okay? (ehehe)

I like to use layering techniques to build an outfit (in any szn) which also includes adding pops of color whenever and wherever I can (but sometimes my red hair is that pop πŸ’‹)

Again, what really draws me to this chic, chill and casual style is just how easy and effortless it feels, but yet looks put together with such intention… especially when you accessorize from day to night vibes πŸŒ‡

    Posting on Parallel πŸ›οΈ

To track my outfits and looks, I use an app called Parallel.io which connects me (and you, if you want to sign up for free) with other users to share and shop the Brands you love πŸ–€

Exquisitely cozy, and covered in cats

You can also enter your outfits in closets to win ca$h prizes and monetize πŸ€‘ your #ootd and earn commissions when someone purchases an item using your tagged links in your photos (directly within the app via the Brands store page)

Changing into something Comfy and Casual

It’s so fun to interact and engage with everyone on the platform, and I find it very user-friendly for just collecting and archiving your lπŸ‘€kbook and #ootds!

And a *nudge* to Friday’s Outfit Formula blog post (since this is my Fashion Forward weekend theme), my month’s goal is to find an easy way to mix and match my graphic tee collection, in the hopes that will really help me with curating outfits in the mornings and reduce the sheer amount of decision paralysis that occurs when I arise…

  • Writing today’s blog post, relaxing to the soothing sounds of torrential rain through wide open windows, and feeling cleansed and recharged on this wet, crisp Caturday!

So make yourself a cozy beverage β˜• and cuddle up for today’s chill aesthetics…

Current Reads include: Rouge by Mona Awad; Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes & Veal by Mackenzie Nolan

and sure seems like a good rainy day to subscribe ✎

Do you have any Rainy Day rituals?

When it’s rainy and wet outside, I like to make cozy warm beverages (e.g., naturally coffee, but also herbal teas) and light incense (even while the windows are open) just to have a peaceful and mindful space to nestle in and reset with uplifting, sensory stimuli!

If it’s not raining and you want that immersive experience: you can simulate the rain sounds, and if any YT channel has the best ambient background videos – it’s The Dead of Night

And once I’m all settled in, I begin the cozy activities my ritualistic self thoroughly enjoys on these slow and intentional rainy days.

Editor’s Note: I enjoy these cozy activities other days as well πŸ™ˆ just they really soothe me during a forced indoor Caturday!

My Cozy Activities β˜” Rainy Day Ritual Edition

It’s no secret that my all-time favorite cozy rainy day ritual is reading… but let me introduce to you to a few of my other cozy rainy day hobbies that I find creatively fulfilling 🎨

    πŸ–ŒοΈ Designing Digital Art

Did you know that the majority of the graphics and effects on my blog are created by yours truly?

I’m really passionate about exploring my skillset in digital art & design. Just recently, an admired colleague of mine put my attention towards Photobashing πŸ‘€

Photobashing is a digital art technique that blends various photographic and digital elements into a stunning and often realistic final artwork.

which seems like an incredible digital concept art technique to learn and build upon, which sort of triggered today’s cozy indoor Caturday experimentation with the blog header:

I like exploring and messing around with layering photos and graphics, as the dimensional playing field is fun and interesting to create original pieces!

Here’s some more graphics I’ve recently created (using Canva) not necessarily using the Photobashing technique, but a layering effect to create a signature look 😎

    Creepy Cross-Stitching 🧡

Usually my colder, cozy ritual but still a big creative outlet for me is a crafty, stitchy hobby to create stunning pieces of art 🀩

Some of my recent finished pieces, now to only source some vintage frames to display them πŸ–ΌοΈ

This hobby really grew when I found the perfect creepy crafty book for me a few years ago, and I have now made it my personal mission to stitch each and every creepy cross-stitch pattern in Lindsay’s book πŸ†

I think I’ve stitched at least 6 pieces so far, and still counting…

ATTENTION πŸ”‰ Not sponsored, but I’ve discovered it’s currently on sale on Kobo if you’re interested in picking up your very own copy and learning how to cross stitch – great for beginners or refreshers!

    ⌨️ Writing /Creepy/ Content

On top of stitching spooky things and creating visuals for this blog, I’m actively committed to posting on a regular schedule, which is roughly:

    2-3 blog posts a week

that are conjured up, summoned and appear on the weekends:

    Between
    6:00pm Friday
    to
    6:00pm Sunday
    Atlantic 🍁 Time

You’re always welcomed to creep backwards and check out any blog posts or content you might have missed, and can lend support by subscribing to the blog to be summoned when the latest creepy content arrives πŸ›ŽοΈ

and also, catch my presence haunting these social platforms

Creatively recharging oneself in your passions and hobbies can truly refuel your soul and help alleviate a lot of overstimulation around us… and I hope reading this blog can add a little mindfully (morbidly creepy) inspiring moment to take with you throughout your days, and sustain your spirit for centuries to come πŸ‘» (and thank you for reading πŸ–€)

Drop a β˜” if you’ve read up until this point, and comment below some of your favorite rainy day rituals πŸ’¬
