Let’s continue the Summerween spirit 👻🎃 with some more unsettling spooky treats!

As we say goodbye 👋🏻 to the last Sunday of July 2k25, we slowly creep towards August with much morbid curiosity…

And I’m sure that’s exactly why you’re here, Boils and Ghouls, to learn about our upcoming adventures down into the darkest depths or unknowingly beyond the other side…
Morbid & Mor(e)bid Curiosities | August 2025

Oh hello, boils and ghouls… do we ever have ourselves in for some horrific scares this August! 📚😈
It was a close call for one of the book club picks 🫣 with multiple polls needed to finally select our scare, but we finally settled upon our two choices for next month’s morbid curiosities…
Double the troubles 😈

our August morbid curiosities await 📚

Our August Morbid Curiosities 💀 Book Club Reads Are…

🌊 The Deep by Nick Cutter (2015)

A global plague (wait a minute, didn’t we just…) of unknown origin and no known cure? But, a possible discovery DEEP beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean…
Yeah, I feel like this book will haunt my dreams for an endless amount of time after reading, due to my own personal fears and anxieties, but also, as I’ve heard that the writing style of Nick Cutter (moreso than his other alias, or real name, Craig Davidson) can truly get underneath your skin and isn’t for the faint of heart!

🪵 Knock Knock, Open Wide by Neil Sharpson (2023)

I’m such a fan of the location, the Celtic folklore surrounding the story and also how it centered around a children’s TV show that isn’t quite how one remembers… (give me this Channel Zero Creepypasta vibe!)
I’ll admit, I wasn’t familiar with this book until one of our Morbid Mavens put it on my radar when thinking about suggestions for August, but I’m so glad that we are tackling this one as a group, because I feel there will be so much to unpack once the book it opened…

🎬 Behind the scenes
I’m floored with how many Morbid Mavens have begun flocking into our haunted clubhouses these days, and it fills my creepy heart up with so much love!
We now are reaching over 385 engaged and eager souls haunting the halls of the clubs, just ready to read the darkest and most disturbed Horror books available.
For August, we had 17 suggestions to narrow down to our Morbid Eight 🎱 and as always, we welcome our trusty/crusty Cursed Wheel to guide our selections…

I also used the cursed wheel to determine where to put the Morbid Eight 🎱 amongst the two haunted clubhouses…

While I had my heart set on reading Lost in the Garden for August, I was happy to see Paradise Rot made it to the Mor(e)bid Curiosities book club poll!
However, as we know from previously reading, that paradise will have to be left rotting, for now…
The Morbid 8 🎱

It was almost impossible to decide between two books in one of our clubs that we had to post another poll just to decide between them…

That fight did not let up in our second poll either, Boils and Ghouls, with many of us Mavens just sitting and waiting to see the final results…

And… with 51% of the Mavens making their final decision, we all are going on quite the journey next month with these Horror books!

As our saying goes, “…the mor(e)bid, the merrier…” so if you like book clubs and want to check out the Fable app, we would be happy if you could…

Until we meet again,
