• Sunday Funday, and for me, that means cleaning and organizing, like the organized chaotic energy that I radiate…

But enough about me, I want to shed light on the new new that is Goodreads’ new logo and user experience

new goodreads logo, updated in July 2025

New Logo and Fresh Look 👀

I am loving the new logo and fresh vibes of the Goodreads revamped website!

They’ve optimized their logo for accessibility (which I am absolutely in love with) and stylized the lowercase g to look like a “magnifying glass” over an open book” which is just, so clever!

Plus, they’ve been super active on their social accounts, promoting their well-researched book newsletters, super engaging reading challenges and most anticipated reads of the summer posts

🌶️ Hot Ones: Readers’ 80 Most Anticipated New Summer Books Newsletter 👇🏻

follow them on IG to stay updated

    New Achievements & Challenges 🔖

If you’ve completed Goodreads Reading Challenges in the past, you’re probably familiar with the rewards you’d receive for reading certain books at certain times, but now they’ve added even more unique challenges to complete and you receive these adorably designed bookmarks as your reward 🤩

My 2k25 reading goal is set to be 52 books (after I updated it back in May ’25 once I hit my goal of 26) so it’s looking promising to achieve this newly set goal (and possibly knock out some side quests for those Summer reading challenges 🫣)

And as any collectionist (such as myself) must achieve to function properly… I must “collect ’em all”

Connect Want To Read with My Books on Amazon

A newly introduced feature that does not really impact me, but could impact others, is a newly added feature for Goodreads & Amazon Users

This has been one of our most popular customer requests and we’ve now made it easy for readers to reference the list of books they’ve already discovered when they are choosing their next book to read on Amazon. It’s another example of how driving Want to Read shelvings for your books on Goodreads delivers multiple benefits over time. Simply type “Your Books” in the search bar on the Amazon Store, and the top result will open the Your Books feature. (Currently available for US customers who have linked their Goodreads and Amazon accounts.)

The noticeable improvements of their user experience, the enhancements to their achievements and challenges to optimize and diversify the reading perspectives, is truly seen and, needless to say, makes me excited that Goodreads is really spicing up their platform this summer szn… They’re getting ready to embrace the upcoming summer months in style!

And that got me super curious and itchy to reanimate my presence on the platform 👻

So, to showcase a few updates that I’ve done to spice up my profile, keep scrolling

& if you like what you’ve read? 😈

New About Me + Interests Added ✏️

I wasn’t aware beforehand that you could update your interests on Goodreads, so now I’ve added a few of my other hobbies (like movies, and arts & crafts, etc.) – plus organized my Favorite Type of Books as well (in case any publishers look at my profile and screen me for available ARCs 👀… you can also reach me by using the Contact page on my blog, btw)

And now to show you some of my updated lists on Goodreads that I think may interest you…

The Never-ending To Be Read List 📚

There are almost 500+ (pre- and post-published) book titles added to this expansive Want To Read list on Goodreads, and believe it or not, I am not scared of the sheer size or amount of books here!

If anything- the more books I discover, the more my morbid curiosity grows 😈 so the inner chaos within will never let me quick adding countless books to my list. As this list continues to evolve with new intriguing titles, it just motivates me more to eventually read and immerse myself in the horrific worlds that await my ghostly presence…

    What I’m Currently Reading 📖

As we speak (or as I type) I’m currently reading 6? books at the moment and trying my hardest to finish the majority of them before July ends…

Side Detour to Chat Camp NetGalley

And as my obsession with NetGalley exponentially grows, I decided to participate in the Camp NetGalley challenge they’re hosting until the end of the month!

And Breathe In, Bleed Out by Brain McAuley happens to be my choice for Camp NetGalley so the active goal is to finish and review it before August 1st to earn my Camp NetGalley Badge…

Today, July 20th, is actually the last day to choose your book for the Camp NetGalley badge so if you’re interested, click on the image above to look at the books available, and sign up for free on NetGalley, for more fun summer camp activities…

Along with Breathe In, Bleed Out; I’m also actively trying to finish Mary by Nat Cassidy as it’s the current mor(e)bid curiosities book club pick for July…

and also I want to finish off Sour Cherry by Natalia Theodoridou since it was a buddy read with a friend of mine, and I truly need to discuss the events of the book!

    Court’s Horrific Gems 💎

Here I’ve selected 13 5-skull books from my Goodreads Finished list that are seriously what I consider to be horrific gems to experience… whether you want a spooky Saturday night, an emotionally heart-wrenching journey or just an unsettling fever dream– you will never forget your experience going into any of the above titles 😨

Well, Boils and Ghouls, it’s been a slice 🍕 showing off the new stylized Goodreads logo and user experience, but the Sunday scaries are starting to kick in 😨 so time to treat ’em with some more disturbing literature…

If you can relate to my reader’s dilemma of taming a never-ending TBR list, you’ve stumbled upon the coziest creepy corner of this interwebz 🕸️🕷️

  • And we’re back for another Saturday Short ‘n Spooky blog post, Boils and Ghouls! Let’s continue last weekend’s discussion on curiosity, but from a different angle 🔎

and if you haven’t already, feel free to check out my last Friday’s Daily Prompt response reflecting on the question:

    What gets better with age?

🔎 The Intriguing Mystery of it all…

Are you like me and become absolutely fascinated with exploring abandoned places, mysterious unsolved cases or paranormal anomalies? I mean, as the blog is cleverly and suggestively named, you must be here due to your growing morbid curiosity… correct?

Case studies, abandoned places, or really anything that’s truly better left alone as a “mystery” has always captivated my attention and fascinated my morbid mind!

I grew up loving CSI, Criminal Minds and all those True Crime /Paranormal Investigator TV shows, and also found researching abandoned towns and locations incredibly intriguing and satisfying. I wanted to explore and experience that eerie and unsettling atmosphere first hand in spots where activity one took place…

The photos above were taken back in 2016 while exploring York Redoubt in 📍 Nova Scotia, Canada

For this Hot Ghoul Summer, along with the other relaxing activities I have planned… I really want to dial back into that explorative energy and do some (safe) urban adventuring, by using apps such as Geocaching and Randonautica, to scavenger hunt by way around the city in a curious and creatively-rewarding way!

And since my spooky boy Nick Crowley made a video on just some of the creepy occurrences that have happened while using the Randonautica app, color me very intrigued 🫣

stay tuned for some cool & creepy adventures ☝🏻

But to guide this post towards some more morbid media recommendations, I want to chat about a few movies I’ve previously viewed, and highly suggest you check out, for all those souls who are captivated and engrossed by the intriguing mystery of it all…

and also, to mention a couple of Horror books that I feel embody the same energy that I’ve been meaning to read.

    Mysterious Movies

    Case 39 (2009)

In her many years as a social worker, Emily Jenkins (Renée Zellweger) thinks she has seen it all — until she meets 10-year-old Lilith (Jodelle Ferland) and the girl’s cruel parents. When the parents try to harm the child, Emily assumes custody of Lilith while looking for a foster family. However, she soon finds that dark forces surround the seemingly innocent child, and the more she tries to protect Lilith, the more horrors she encounters.

I remember renting this one when Roger’s Video (in NL, Canada) was around, and truly losing sleep over just how creepy of a case it was (fictional or not).

With a star-studded cast including Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland and Bradley Cooper, you just know you’re in for a terrifying treat with this just under-2 hour, mid-2000s Horror gem!

And I mean, it’s Bradley during his prime (*cough* The Midnight Meat Train *cough*) and so you have to give the guy his kudos for horror film commitments!

    Session 9 (2001)

A tale of terror when a group of asbestos removal workers start work in an abandoned insane asylum. The complex of buildings looms up out of the woods like a dormant beast. Grand, imposing … abandoned, deteriorating. The residents of Danvers, Massachusetts steer well clear of the place. But Danvers State Mental Hospital, closed down for 15 years, is about to receive five new visitors…

I remember watching and just feeling so unsettled after viewing, especially since it was actually filmed at the abandoned Danvers State Mental Hospital in Danvers, Massachusetts…

Plus, when you see Horatio (sorry, CSI Miami flashbacks) David Caruso in a movie, you’d better buckle up and get ready for an experience…

Another eerie and utterly captivating early 2000s Horror movie that really played with that unsettling and uncomfortable sense of tension… which is delightful!

Also, nothing hits better than those early 2000s Horrors (and I know Sarah from PosssessedbyHorror would agree, heh)

And since we love to talk about Horror books on this blog, I thought I’d share a couple on my TBR that give me the same unsettling vibes and energy!

    Intriguing Books

    Episode Thirteen

With hooks such as “…a heart-pounding novel of horror & psychological suspense…” and “Fans of paranormal documentaries, ghost-hunting shows, and found-footage horror“, you know you’re in for a terrifying treat.

I’ve had this book on my TBR for so long now, and also have had a library hold placed, but I’ve had to pause it for the time being since I’m so swamped with my NetGalley summer commitments, but the goal is to read this one in the Fall to really set the mood for the terror that will follow…

Search your local library on Overdrive:

    + Available on:

    Eight Cases of Jane

Another book on my TBR that I’ve been itching to read 🫣 and also fits perfectly within our intriguing books category!

I’ve only been able to find it on Amazon at this time, but I really hope my local library will soon shelf a copy or even an audiobook version?!

    Available on:

And if you already own a copy of the book and want a playlist to go along with your reading experience, the author herself RJ Powell has made you the perfect music mix!

Hoover and I thoroughly enjoy our Horror reads, especially when reading We Used To Live Here 👀

I truly appreciate you all, Boils and Ghouls 👻, for taking the time to understand the peculiarity of my morbid curiosity and just exactly where it likes to guide me…

I hope you join me on these eventful and explorative adventures and we uncover just what lurks there, in the vast unexplored darkness of the universe 🌌

Also consider subscribing to satisfy your morbid curiosity…

  • It’s Friday once again, Boils and Ghouls… but yet, I’m not feeling that TGIF! energy this week…

Energy levels have been sporadic and unmanageable, leading to some of this summer’s blog posts being a little unstructured and unscheduled, to even being postponed. I even debated on whether I should write a post at all today, given how I currently feel, but carving out a creepy corner on the interwebz, to exist and enter a creative flow state, recharges my soul beyond belief and I really want you, the reader, to know that 🫶🏻

So I’d like to keep some of my embers burning to fuel this blog, in order to keep cultivating and maintaining this space we’ve created together, to summon our souls (and love for all things spooky), morbidly!

Entering Mercury Retrograde With aN Attitude 🦁

With today being the first day Mercury enters the microwave… to retrieve the Gatorade… during this Retrograde, I thought about the attitude I plan on taking to approach these next few weeks of self-reflection.

    Refresh & Refocus

And while Mercury remains in this state until August 11th, I thought this would be the ultimate time to refresh and refocus some of my creative ideas, since this retrograde seems to be centered around self-growth (as we soon enter Leo szn 🦁)

Mercury retrograde 2025 in Leo is a space to reflect on the narratives, perspectives, thought forms, and ideas in our minds that keep us from our most authentic and liberated expression of who we are. Leo expresses its essence brilliantly because that is what it means to be alive. It reminds us that we each have a unique radiance, a spark unlike anyone else’s, and to dim that would not only create a disservice to ourselves and to every other human but disconnect us from life itself.Yoga Journal

But before we chit-chat about that, let’s shine a spotlight on…

    Friday’s Fashion Icon🤩

Follow Hanna on Pinterest for more whimsical OOTD inspo ✨

I’ve been trying my best to recharge my energy, whenever possible, and refocus myself on nurturing my basic needs to get out of deep slumps… however, it’s been seemingly harder to truly focus on what I need lately. And now with a few weeks of energetic chaos on the way, the overwhelming noise will only get louder…

So it’s truly the best time to focus on proper self-care habits and kick that new attitude into motion, and I have a few ideas curating in my mind on how I’ll connect with nature, practice mindful meditation and engage in creative expression, to mention just a few 🔮

And to continue summoning good vibes to end tonight’s short n’ spooky post, I’ve actually been refreshing some of my presence online to accurately reflect the creepy, chic vibes and boost some of those dark, moody feels 🔮

Refresh your inbox with weekly doses of morbid curiosity…
